Easter Weekend - Rugby and Beer Festival
28/02/2010
Many of you will have heard snippets as to what is occurring at the club on Good Friday and Easter Saturday this year but will not be aware of the full story.
On Friday 2nd April & Saturday 3rd April 2010 Towcestrians RFC (both seniors minis & Juniors) are planning an event which will combine a rugby match, a beer festival and a musical Festival with a purpose to:
• Play the the longest rugby match ever played (up to 6 hours)
• Create a World Record for the most players in a rugby union exhibition match, validated by the Guiness World Records
• Hold a charity auction of rugby memorabilia
• Generate funds for three proposed charities: ‘Help for Heroes’ The Royal British Legion and the ‘Wooden Spoon’
• Plus funds towards Towcestrians sports club
Teams to play will include
Wooden Spoon, Latter day Saints, Help for Heroes, (all featuring ex premiership and international player) Towcestrians teams, a mini a junior period.
The beer & music festival will start on the evening of Friday 2nd April and the longest match, beer festival, bands and charity auction will start at 12pm and through out the day on 3rd April
We are also looking to involve our section players in the world record breaking attempt by having each age group U6’s through to U16’s to play short exhibition matches in the middle of the longest match. We will be organising this through head coaches / team managers and a local team to provide opposition. All players will receive a Help for Heroes medal.
Additional attractions will include:
• Mercian Regimental Band
• Gurkha Field Kitchen selling authentic Nepalese curries
• Hook Norton Dray & Shire Horses
• Autographs & photos with players
• Rock bands
• Porsche Stand
• BBQs / Pig roast
• Historical Armoured vehicles and military personnel carriers
• Dog agility teams
• Children’s games, bouncy castle etc.
• And more
As you can see this is set to be a major event for the club and fun for families on an Easter Saturday. Already there is much media interest and you will be hearing more and more over the coming weeks in newspapers, local radio and TV.
This is a club event and we are in need of helpers in a number of ways. The U9s are running the beer festival in addition we need players, coaches and parents from all age groups to volunteers for an hour or two hour shift during the Saturday. I will be asking coaches and managers where each age group support can be given, so please approach your team manager and volunteer a shift, it is for a good cause and will be a great day if all pitch in. We need support for 1 ½ hour shifts during the day from 11am through to 6pm in the area of:
Car parking, selling programmes, BBQ duties, Teas & Coffees duty, selling Gurkha curries, bucket shakers, clearer uppers, Team stewards.
Please see attached a full synopsis of the event used for informing sponsors and the media. If there are any parents who feel they would like to support this event through sponsorship (programme, banners etc.), or would like a stand at the ground on the day for their business then please contact me.
More to follow as things shape up
