Syston (A) - Won 26-5
Final Score: 26-5
Towcester U13's visited Syston RFC for the first on Sunday and after a very entertaining mornings rugby came away with a 26 points to 5 win.
The first half was very tight with the Syston forwards dominating the breakdown and winning a lot of ball, but the Towcester backs defending and tackling well to deny Syston much territory. In the set piece Towcester were winning ball and the first try came from a pick up from the base of a scrum by Josh Goodall, who then ran through the defence to score under the posts. The conversion just missed and left the halftime score at 5-0 to Tows.
In the second half the Towcester forwards started to work a lot harder and competed far better at the breakdown to provide more ball. Towcester used this well and scored three more tries. The first by Matt Chalcraft after an excellent supporting run, the second by Joe Winterburn after a wide sweeping run to outflank the defence, and the third was another try by Josh Goodall who also converted all three. Syston also scored a try in the second half but to convert so the final score was 26-5 to Tows.
As we had taken a big squad to Syston we then played a second shorter game to give everybody as much game time as possible, and while we did not start this game well and conceded a try very early on we did come back well, scoring two tries of our own to win 14-7.
Overall two good results but not some of our best rugby. We seemed to arrive at the fixture assuming it would be an easy game and it took us all of the first 20 minutes to get fully into gear, and from then on we played well, but it is important that we arrive at every game expecting it to be tough!
