Market Harborough (H) - Won 19-0
Final Score: 19-0
Another beatiful morning for our game against Market Harborough, an 11.30 kick off to allow those that wanted to watch the world cup final.
From the start it was clear that this was going to be a very well contested game, both sides going through a number of phases of play, mostly between the Tows 22 and halfway. This pattern of play continued until halfway through the half when Tows were awarded a penalty on their own 10m line. Charie took it quickly and released Josh who saw space wide left an exploited this to round the defence and score under the posts. He then converted his own try to make it 7-0 to Tows.
The next score came after a number of phases of play with Tows showing good ball retention. They were awarded a scrum near halfway, and after a very good drive Josh picked up at the base and beat 3 defenders to score in the left corner. This made the half-time score 12-0.
In the second half Tows were playing uphill but with the strong wind behind them, and having made 4 player changes it was great to see that they contined to play in exactly the same way. Tackling was mostly very good with first up tackles being made, but could still have put more pressure on their posession. Again Market Harborough tested the Tows defence with some good passages of play and ball retention, but the Tows defence held strong and managed to turn the ball over a couple of times. On the second occasion Ollie K ripped the ball clear from a maul and headed up the pitch, leaving one boot behind (he needs to get some decent rugby boots!), but was very well tackled on their 22. Tows support was good, got to the breakdown quickly and having retained posession Josh and Joe combined well for Joe to score. Josh then converted to make the final score 19-0.
An excellent game and result and well played by the whole squad, but a couple of special mentions are deserved. Charlie had a great game at fly half with good distribution, takling and by being brave and strong when he needed to run the ball. George B also had a good game, making three excellent breaks and apart from some wonderful cover takling by Market Harborough could have scored three tries. He then made an excellent try saving tackle late in the game to make sure we conceded no points.
A very enjoyable game to watch, well played everybody, keep it up!
